Birthday presents

September 16th, 2013

Every now and then something happens to remind me that the old adage is true: the best things in life are free. It was my birthday week recently. My super sweet, loving child wanted to make a fuss for me.

I came home the night before to dinner nearly finished and waiting for me! Olivia was standing at the stove and stirring macaroni and cheese with Claus' direction. She served it in her special Hello Kitty bowl. As part of her new chores routine, she also proudly set the table.

The following day, she presented me with a gift. It was a bunch of her favorite toys, piled in a box that I had brought home and gave her to play with. She had decorated the box further with handmade drawings.

The toys included nail polish, a piece of a keychain, a hair accessory, a handmade handkerchief she already gave me once during Summer Fun, a handmade bead necklace, and a handmade card. I love it all.

She topped it off with a hug, a kiss, and an I love you. Really, this is the best birthday present I've ever received.
