Following Olivia's fresh ear piercing, a gift for her seventh birthday, Olivia's interest in piercings has increased. She asked me, "Mommy, does it hurt to pierce your tongue?"
I had to stop walking and turn my head to look at her. "You are not getting a tongue piercing," I preempted.
"I know," she said. "But does it hurt?"
"I don't know. I don't have one. I guess so. Looks sore," I ventured. "Why do you ask me?"
"I see lots of people with tongue piercings," she said.
"Where? School? Where are you meeting these people? Do I know them?" I asked with not just a little neuroses.
"I don't know them. I see them out in public, like at the mall," she clarified. Whew.
"So... did you want a tongue piercing?" I continued.
"Would you let me get one?" she said.
"NO," I firmly stated. Am I having this conversation with a seven or a 17 year old?!?
Based on how Claus responded to her getting her ears pierced, I don't think I should even share this conversation with him!
